GCHFH is a locally run affiliate of
Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for
Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The
houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Back To Top |

 Construction of our second house in the county is nearing completion. lots of people say they are interested in helping but few show up! Our partner family is way behind in sweat equity, but it is not all her fault we have not provided oportunities for this single mom to work her hours. We arre still learning! We had a good turn out for our fund rasing dinner We now have a church liason!A new fund raising chairman has taken over She has lots of ideas for making money. Her first event a 'bowl a thon' was very sucessful!We want to build in another town in the county but no one has donated any land as yet.Our first partner family is making their home a show place with landscaping.Our want list is very long an office with a staff to run it is high on the list. just a phone number would be great!

Volunteers are needed for the fund raising efforts and the actual construction.More board members are needed also.To volunteer for fundraising call Sharan Sears at 1-812-847-2581. for building call Amber Thomas (board president) at 1-812-384-4282 Come to a meeting if you are interested in being a board member. Those wishing to apply for a home should watch the local papers for announcement of open season for applications or leave their name at any event where GCHFH has a booth. |
